We at Mundo Exchange support projects that are locally driven, culturally responsive, sustainable over time, and ultimately build individual and community self-sufficiency and self-determination in order to enable communities to represent their interests in a responsible and self-determined way, acting on their own authority. Our projects have included teaching English in rural schools while boosting children’s confidence, self-knowledge and self-esteem; partnering with social services to ensure women and children who are victims of domestic violence have a to safe space to rebuild their lives and find their voice; collaborating with local hospital staff to help make medical care accessible to the poorest and most marginalized; and partnering with local farmers to teach community members how to grow their own nutritious foods. I first participated in the project in 2010-2011.
